About 44th & Parkside
This ballpark at 44th Street and Parkside Avenue, also called Penmar Park, was originally an athletic field built by the Pennsylvania Railroad YMCA for its employees. Ed Bolden, previous owner of the Hilldale Daisies, brought his new Philadelphia Stars franchise to play there from 1936 to 1952. The Stars won the Negro National League pennant in 1934 and remained one of the league's top draws through the 1940s.
