About Catholic Protectory Oval
The Catholic Protectory Oval in the Bronx, built on the grounds of a Catholic orphanage, became home to the Negro league New York Lincoln Giants in 1920 after they moved from the demolished Olympic Field. The Giants joined the Eastern Colored League for its inaugural 1923 season. The oval also hosted Bronx championship series against semipro teams in 1924 and 1925, the latter featuring a young Lou Gehrig playing first base for the opposing Bronx Giants.
