About Hilltop Park
Hilltop Park was built in just six weeks by 500 workers on a high point in Washington Heights, opening in time for the New York Highlanders' first home game on April 30, 1903. The Highlanders, recently relocated from Baltimore where they had been the Orioles, took their name from the elevated site. The team played there through 1912, adopted the Yankees name in 1913, and the ballpark was demolished the following year.
