About Parkway Field

Parkway Field opened in 1923 as the concrete-and-steel replacement for the fire-prone wooden Eclipse Park and was home to the Louisville Colonels of the American Association through 1956. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig barnstormed there in 1928, and in 1946 Jackie Robinson played his first professional postseason games there when the Montreal Royals met the Colonels in the Junior World Series. The grandstand was demolished in 1961, though the University of Louisville continued using the field itself until 1998.
