About Robison Field
Robison Field, originally called New Sportsman's Park and later League Park, was home to the St. Louis Cardinals from 1893 until 1920. A fire tore through the stands during a game on April 16, 1898, killing one fan and injuring about 100 others, and another fire struck in 1901. Owner Helene Britton, the first female owner in major league baseball, renamed it Robison Field in 1911 after her father and uncle, and Rogers Hornsby began his Hall of Fame career there. The Cardinals moved to Sportsman's Park in 1920, and the site later became Beaumont High School.
