Veterans Stadium

Veterans Stadium opened on April 10, 1971 with the Phillies beating the Montreal Expos 4-1 in front of a chilly, windy crowd, with 39-year-old Jim Bunning picking up the win. The circular, multipurpose stadium used AstroTurf instead of a traditional dirt infield and could seat more than 56,000 for baseball. It served as the Phillies' home for over three decades before being demolished in 2004.
